The Paiwalla Wetland is a private reserve located between Mannum and Murray Bridge. Previously a dairy farm, it is now protected and serves as a refuge for flora and fauna. And snakes. SSSssss. A wonderful place to visit. Check out the website for details on how to get access. Ngarrindjeri country.
Nganguraku country. Near Swan Reach. Such fabulous trees in this part of the state.
We enjoyed the full North Warren loop experience on Sunday. It’s a lovely 8.8km walk through eucalypts, pine forests and at the moment, water. We went clockwise and only got wet socks in the last 15 minutes. Our last walk here was in May with less puddles and more funghi.
After our walk at Mannum Waterfalls we checked out the town. Just beyond the ferry is a lovely bird watching spot.
Meru country, Ngayawang country. We visited the waterfalls hoping to see some water after recent rains. It was beautiful but still pretty dry. We’ve had a few outings to Kaisterstuhl Conservation Park, which is a glorious place for a walk. On our last visit (in May) we took the longer trail, Wallowa, which heads up the hill to the Kaiserstuhl Native Forest Reserve.
The Gardens can be accessed from River Road, an easy drive from Wentworth. The flowering bed of Sturt’s Desert Pea really made it worth the visit.
Wentworth is Barakindji / Kureinji country, where the Darling and Murray Rivers meet. While there was a lookout tower and an information board at the convergence, the Junction Island Nature Reserve walk, a little further out of town, was the best spot for views.
Last time we went to Warren Reservoir the water was so low there were some parts of the lake we couldn’t get to. There was a lot of mud but seemed to be more birds around, including plovers fighting each other and a number of pelicans.
